Get Charged! Electricity and You

Comanche Electric Cooperative is excited about having the ability to invest in the future of our youth through the Discovery: Get Charged! Electricity and You science kit. This kit is an educational tool focusing on electricity. It is available to all middle/junior high schools (grades 5-9) within our service territory. The purpose of the kit is to provide students and teachers with a real world understanding of the power and purpose of electricity.

Students throughout the United States must master educational standards of learning. While individual states differ in their implementation and assessment of standards, they often base those for science topics on the National Science Education Standards.

Published by the National Academy of Sciences, the National Science Education Standards (NSES) provide guidelines for teaching science, as well as a coherent vision of what it means to be scientifically literate. Developed by teachers, scientists, science educators, and other experts, the standards for grades K-12 describe what all students should understand and be able to do in various science categories.

Discovery Channel School developed Get Charged! Electricity and You, a comprehensive kit of educational materials that focuses on electricity based on the NSES standards for science. The kit meets the following national physical science standard for grades 5-9: Transfer of energy (electricity is addressed in section 3 of this content standard). In order to meet the broad range of skills and abilities of students in grades 5-9, these materials offer great flexibility to educators.
