ZAP!

Did you ever wonder just what happens in those lines that run from pole to pole? Or what all that "stuff" was attached to those poles? Or why birds can sit up there and not be harmed, yet you are warned to stay away? If you have ever questioned any of these items, or if you have other questions you would like answered, you have come to the right place.

Preparedness and education are the two most valuable tools we have when it comes to understanding just what happens or could happen when you come in contact with electric lines.

Each year Comanche Electric Cooperative proudly presents arcing demonstrations to area school children and adults. During this demonstration you will see just what happens when people and nature collide with electricity. During the course of this display, you will see a live demonstration in which we purposefully make contact with electricity in order to enact an event that could possibly happen.

Electricity is taken very much for granted and little thought is given to the lines that run from pole to pole and to our homes. After viewing this demonstration you should have a much deeper appreciation of what runs through those lines, the precautions that need to be taken, and what to do if you or anyone else should happen to come in contact with those lines.

Below are links to two videos that could be some of the most valuable resources we have when it comes to knowing what precautions need to be taken around electrical wires. The first is a video of an actual Arcing Demonstration done for a group of third graders. The second is a reminder concerning the wires coming into our homes. We encourage you to view the videos. If you would like to have Comanche Electric Cooperative present an arcing demo for your group call Shirley at 800-915-2533 or 325-356-2533, or email to memberservices@ceca.coop.
